Hidden Savings: How I Bought My Silhouette Portrait

I recently mentioned that I bought a Silhouette Portrait, in this blog post. But I didn’t tell you how! I used this amazing app that automatically saves money, without me thinking about it. It’s called Digit. It’s a completely mobile app that can be used via phone. Here’s a quick one minute overview by Digit:

It really is that easy. I’ve been using Digit for over a year now, and it’s been amazing. I’ve easily socked away a few hundred dollars every quarter and used it to splurge. Last year, I bought new bookshelves with my savings to match a coffee table Christmas gift. I just now bought the Silhouette Portrait with my Digit Savings. The best part is I don’t even realize I have that money socked away. So, how does it work?

Digit uses algorithms to analyze your spending habits after you link it to your bank account. With this information, it starts pulling money out of your account 2-3 times a week. When I first started using Digit, it literally only took out $1 and some change at a time. Even if you make large purchases, you can manually tell Digit to save more or less. Right now, I have Digit set to pull out roughly $20/week. You can also tell Digit you want to take a break and it’ll freeze saving for you.

Every Digit account is secure. It’s encrypted, anonymous, and all funds are FDIC insured. Digit is also FREE! There are no fees, no service charges, nothing. They also have a no overdraft policy since they’re connected to your checking account.

Now, I’ve never had $6500 in my Digit account, but I have had more than $500. When you withdraw, it’s really easy. You just text “withdrawal $X” and the funds will be in your bank account the next business day. When I started thinking about purchasing a Silhouette Portrait, I realized I was looking at spending about $200 on the machine and materials. I held off, because I knew I didn’t have the money in the budget. Then I remembered Digit. Seriously, it’s so easy, I forget I have it, haha. I looked in my account and I had the $200 I needed! I withdrew it, and the next day I was able to order my Silhouette Portrait. Easy peasy!

I really recommend this app, even if you’re only saving a few bucks a week. It’s better than nothing, and it’s a great rainy day fund! If you click my exclusive link to sign up for Digit, you’ll get an extra $5!

What will you buy with your Digit savings?
